Biography

Cellist Hayk Sukiasyan was born in 1994 in Yerevan and, due to the breadth of his repertoire, as well as the dynamic style of playing in the international concert circuit, he attracted attention tohimself very early on. Numerous performances as a soloist and in chamber music ensembles, aswell as tours with renowned orchestras and conductors worldwide, are a testimony to his great talent. With philosophical excitement of discovery, the young cellist approaches the works of the cello literature from the Baroque, Classical and Romantic period, ranging from Bach throughto contemporary composers like Helmut Lachenmann, Alexander Knaifel, or the Armenians Tigran Mansurian, Vache Sharafyan. In the autumn of 2016 Hayk Sukiasyan made the German premiere of Paul Patterson's cello concerto, op.90 with the Kammerakademie Halle under the baton of Josep Caballe Domenech.

While studying with Ramon Jaffe at the Hochschule fur Musik Carl Maria von Weber in Dresden and later at the Escuela Superior de Musica Reina Sofia in Madrid in the class of worldly renowned cellist Prof. Ivan Monighetti, Hayk Sukiasyan performed internationally with orchestras like the Freixenet Orchestra under the baton of Pablo Heras Casado, the Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Harutyun Arzumanyan, the State Youth Symphony Orchestra of Armenia under Sergey Smbatyan and the Staatskapelle Halle with Josep Caballe Domenech. From 2011 to 2016, he was a regular guest at the Osterfestival Bayreuth, where he recorded several CD-productions for the Bavarian Radio with the International Young Orchestra Academy. In addition, Hayk Sukiasyan performed at the Musiek Festival in Middelburg (The Netherlands), the Semper Music International Festival (Italy), the Cello Akademie Rutesheim, Encuentro de Musica y Academia in Santander, Cantabile in Lisbon, etc.

Concert tours have taken him to the USA, Canada, Ecuador, France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, The Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Cyprus, Syria, Lebanon and his homeland Armenia. He played in numerous concert venues such as Konzerthaus Berlin, Semperoper Dresden, Handel Halle, Stiftung Mozarteum Salzburg, Salle Cortot Paris, National Auditorium of Madrid, Teatro Real Madrid, Teatro Monumental de Madrid, Kursaal San Sebastian, L'Auditori Barcelona, etc. Aside from his intensive concert career, Hayk Sukiasyan meets with eminent voices from the international classical music scene like composers Tigran Mansurian and Vache Sharafyan, conductors like Zubin Mehta, Andras Schiff, Paul Goodwin, Andres Oroszco Estrada, Placido Domingo, Jesus Lopez Cobos, Guy Brauenstein and Daniel Raiskin.

As a chamber musician he shared the stage with musicians such as Anne-Sophie Mutter, Natalia Prischepenko, Diemut Poppen, Marie Elisabeth Lott, Zakhar Bron, Felix Renggli, Massimo Mercelli. During 2010-2014 Hayk regularly played with the members of the Armenian Khachaturian Trio, Armine Grigoryan(Piano), Karen Shahgaldyan (Violin) and Karen Kocharyan (Violoncello). In 2015 as part of a project dedicated to the renowned German composer Helmut Lachenmann's 80th Anniversaryat the HfM Dresden Hayk was honoured to meet the composer and perform his "Pression" for Cello Solo on the Gala Concert.

Hayk took masterclasses with musicians such as: Frans Helmerson, Menahem Pressler, Eduard Brunner, Ralph Kirshbaum, Lynn Harrell, Gunter Pichler, Nobuko Imai, Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt, Jens Peter Maintz, Torleif Thedeen, Gautier Capucon, Alexander Lonquich, Wen-Sinn Yang, Suren Bagratuni, Alexander Rudin, Claudio Bohorquez, Vagram Saradjyan, Alexander Chaushian, Narek Hakhnazaryan, Manuel Fischer-Dieskau, Valentin Erben. Hayk is currently studying with Prof. Danjulo Ishizaka and Sol Gabetta at the Musikakademie Basel.

Hayk plays a Giovanni and Francesco Grancino cello from the years 1660-1670 generously loaned by Sinfonima Stiftung.
